When Students Choose AI in HyFlex Courses: Early Results from a Moments-of-Need Study

This session shares early findings from a study examining how students decide when to use generative AI in HyFlex courses. Drawing on the Five Moments of Need framework, the study explores how AI can support learning at specific moments such as sense-making, rehearsal, and reflection. Survey results from three graduate courses highlight where students found AI helpful, when they chose not to use it, and how their judgment about AI use evolved over the semester.
